3 Reasons Shelly’s Philosophy Deserves a Spot on a T-Shirt (or a Mug, or a Tote…)

The other day, I was scrolling through my photo stream, just passing the time, when I stumbled upon an old picture of me and Shelly. She’s my cousin, my long-distance best friend, and one of the few frogs who can get me to rethink the way I see the world. The picture was from a few years back when I visited her in California. I sat there looking at that picture, thinking about how we’re different, but also how much I need her perspective sometimes. She’s the kind of frog who reminds you that adventure doesn’t wait. That sometimes, the best move is just to go.

And that’s when it hit me—Shelly’s life philosophy needs more than just my admiration. It deserves a place on a t-shirt. Or a mug. Or a tote bag. Or, well, anything that lets other folks carry a little piece of her energy with them.

Here are three reasons why Shelly’s outlook deserves to be printed, loud and proud.

1. Her words are a reminder to live boldly.

Now, if you know us, you know we don’t just slap things on t-shirts and call it a day. We believe in printing up thoughts, ideas, and reminders. Things that make you smile, make you think, or just make life a little more fun.

Shelly’s whole philosophy on life is worth capturing. Her catchphrases—like “Adventure is my cardio” and “The best roads are the ones you make yourself”—aren’t just words. They’re a way of being. And I reckon they belong on a graphic, bold and bright, just like her spirit.

If you’ve ever wondered why adventurous people seem to see the world differently, there’s science behind it. Studies show that stepping outside your comfort zone increases happiness and helps with long-term mental flexibility. [Here’s an article on how adventure changes your brain.]

2. Inspiration should fit your life, however you live it.

When I first started thinking about this, my mind went straight to a t-shirt. But the truth is, Not Quite Right Goods isn’t just a t-shirt company. We make goods—things that go where you go, things that fit into your life in ways that make sense to you. Maybe you need a canvas print on your wall to remind you to chase the next wave. Maybe a tote bag with one of Shelly’s sayings is just the thing to carry your essentials on your next adventure. Maybe a mug with “Keep it breezy, keep it easy” helps set the tone for your morning.

The point is, inspiration isn’t one-size-fits-all. It should meet you where you are, in whatever way makes the most sense.

3. We could all use a little Shelly energy.

Not everybody sees the world the way I do, and that’s a good thing. Some folks need a little nudge to slow down and think things through. And some folks—maybe folks like me—need a reminder to take the leap, even if they don’t have the whole plan figured out yet.

Shelly’s designs will be for anyone who’s ever hesitated when they should’ve just gone for it. They’ll be for the folks who dream big, move fast, and make their own paths. And for the ones who need a reminder that sometimes, all it takes to start an adventure is the decision to go.

So, consider this your sneak peek—Shelly’s energy is making its way onto Not Quite Right Goods. Whether it’s a t-shirt, a coffee mug, or a sticker for your favorite travel gear, you’ll soon be able to carry a little piece of her adventurous spirit with you.

And if you ever find yourself hesitating on the edge of something new, wondering if it’s the right time to jump, just remember: the best roads are the ones you make yourself.

Hello, friend. Name’s Archie. I’m just a frog living life at my own pace down by the creek behind a house in Mobile, Alabama. You’d think that’d make for a quiet existence, but let me tell you—life’s got a way of keeping things interesting, even if you never stray too far from home. I spend most of my days fishing, reading, and thinking up things that make me smile. Sometimes that’s a good joke. Sometimes it’s a clever turn of phrase. And sometimes it’s just the way the afternoon light hits the water, making everything shimmer like it’s in on a secret. I’m not one for rushing, but I do believe in making the most of a moment. A long sit on a favorite log, a deep conversation with a good friend, or just watching the world go by—those little things add up to a life well-lived. This here blog is where I share my musings, stories, and observations. Some of them might make you chuckle, some might make you think, and some might just be the nudge you need to stop and appreciate the odd, wonderful world we all find ourselves in. So, pull up a seat (but don’t sit too long, or the kudzu’ll get you), pour yourself a glass of something sweet, and stay awhile. You’re always welcome down by the creek.
